Protests in Mexico City before Mexico vs. Portugal match

Mexico is preparing for a football match between the national team and Portugal, scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at the Banorte Stadium. However, the sporting event could turn into chaos for fans due to planned protests. Various neighborhood groups, social collectives, and activists have announced a day of mobilizations around the stadium, putting access to main roadways at risk.

The protests present several fronts: neighborhood opposition to construction work for the 2026 World Cup and demands for justice for missing persons. The first event is scheduled for noon: the Neighborhood Assembly against Mega-Constructions and the Anti-World Cup Assembly (students from ENAH) will block Calzada de Tlalpan under the bridge near the stadium. At 13:00, the collective 'Somos Generación Z MX' will gather at Metro Pino Suárez to head south in support of families of missing persons.

At 15:00, the 'Cielito Lindo' cheerleading group will begin the 'Caminemos Juntos' march towards the stadium. At 16:20, the collective 'La Comuna 4:20' will hold a rally at the Banorte Stadium to demand the recognition of spaces for marijuana consumption. At 17:00, collectives of searching mothers will protest at the stadium gates with the slogan: 'The government's silence protects someone, and it's not the victims!'

Authorities warn of possible vehicular disruption in the stadium area from 13:00 to 23:00. Access to the stadium will be exclusively pedestrian for ticket holders. The use of public transport is recommended. Special RTP and trolleybus services will be activated four hours before the match.
